Speed Work (of sorts)

Last Saturday I ran 10 miles at Pineland and was pretty happy with my 10:22 min/mile pace. Today I ran 8 miles there at 9:42 min/mile pace. The difference - Danielle. She was doing 20 miles there to assess her plan to do the 50K. Most Monsters were going to be elsewhere and I decided to keep her company for the first 8. Rick and I had Sea Dog tickets and I wouldn't have time for more. Good thing cause I couldn't have kept up with her for any more! As it was, I told her to go ahead just after the 6 miles mark. I knew she wanted to keep me company, but I also knew she was testing herself and didn't want to hold her back. Maybe if Rick and I hadn't discovered that Gritty did pitchers the night before, I could have toughed it out a little better: ) I made it back to the parking area to see Danielle heading out for the 2nd part of the course. The Garmin said I only was at 7.5 so I headed back into the woods to get that last .5.

I had such a good time running with Danielle. Lots of talk on motherhood and running. It was also good to push myself a bit. After I let her go, I dropped back to 10:10 min/mile. Still a decent pace for me. All in all, I was really happy I decided to join her. I hope the run gave her the confidence to go for the 50k!

Lets see if I can add on the data from Chris's Garmin:

  1. How does everyone make it look like their runs were in the Andes and mine look like they were in Kansas?
