Firm Trails, Recovered Legs, and Fat Ass Numbers

Before the running stuff... when I asked Rick what he thought of my new header and color scheme, he joked that the picture would make people think I was a triathlete.  I just liked the shot.  It's not very representative of my running.  But that's the look till I get another running shot I like a lot.  My next race will not be a flatter, faster course  : )

Now on to the day's run....I waited till 4 pm to head out (I'm sure I've mentioned loads of times how I prefer running later rather than earlier, especially when I don't have to avoid the heat of the day).  The trails were ideal for someone that has screw shoes otherwise they'd be quite slick.  I almost fell earlier when I was walking Spot on the very same snowmobile trail.  The best stretches were shaded from the afternoon sun.  They still had the dusting of snow from the morning before giving a nice little cushion and extra something to grip.  Got in 5.2 miles in just under 53 minutes.  Not fast, but not slow for the what it was.  My legs seemed totally recovered from my longest run since the Stone Cat Marathon in November.

Here are the numbers from the February Fat Ass:  In a span of 5 hours and 23 minutes, 27 runners ran a combined 77 hours, 47 minutes, and 5 seconds to cover a whopping 442.68 miles! We had two runners go the full 50K (Yay Nate and Joe!). Last year 23 runners banged out 385.92 miles in 73:59:54. So last year's runners averaged slightly more miles/runner (16.78 vs 16.4), but this year's pace was a brisk 10:32 min/mile vs last year's pedestrian 11:30.

  1. There's a popular runner's bumper sticker in Boulder that declares, "Sea Level is for Sissies". I'm not sure if the reference to the flat terrain or abundance of oxygen.

It appears that the curvature of the earth can be detected in your photo.

  2. I like to make up definitions for the wavy code words that we have to enter before leaving our comments. The last one was "emingle".

  3. I like the photo ......love the ocean and love running there. Has nothing to do with degree of difficulty.

  4. Maybe "sissies" means "sisters" : ) I like a lot of the (the kids tell me the word for the "wavy code" words and would roll their eyes that I don't remember) words, too and will think that they could mean something.

    Thanks, Kevin!
