Is a run with friends on good trails instead! I used to be pretty rigid about following the training plan exactly. Over the years, I've been able to be slightly flexible. It is easier to run and not take a day off than the other way around, though.
Mindy, Danielle, and I met at Bradbury at noon. The heat of the day hadn't really built in, but it was in the mid-30's. We found a slightly soft surface, but the base was very solid. It was actually perfect conditions for the type of run we had in mind...one filled with lots of chatting; there was no crunch, crunch of the snow to talk over. The trail was groomed well and wide; we could even run three abreast.
The temperature must have risen a good deal during our run. When we turned around after 3 miles, the edges of the trail were becoming soft enough that I dropped behind rather than risk post holing or sliding in the loose snow. Still, with the quiet snow, I could hear and chat with no problems. That was the shortest six miles I've run in a long time : )
In the parking lot, we drooled over which sandwich we might choose at Edna and Lucy's. Though this run didn't really need a reward, we were heading there anyway for yummy refueling and continued talk. Unfortunately, none of us realized that they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays during the winter. Gritty's would have to do.
Thanks, Danielle and Mindy!
Thank YOU! And waiting for Jamie's comment that there were really 6 a-breasts. Hee.
