For a few months now, I've had a painful foot. It starts in the arch of my foot and wraps around to the inside of my ankle. I think it showed up after a particularly bad twist. Unfortunately, it seems to be getting worse. I've been taking the "just ignore it" tactic, hoping it would eventually go away. I think running harder than I usually do (ie racing) has aggravated it. I'm going to do a short run today and evaluate. I'm still hoping to be able to run the miles of my marathon training plan without taking days
Hope it's not the dreaded PF?
ReplyDeleteSounds like maybe the posterior tibial tendon or maybe a deltoid ligament. Treatment: RICE

Val, as one who has taken a few days off last week and this week, I hear you! I hate having to miss miles. But, if you need to rest, rest. A bit :-) And then get back out there. Hope it clears up soon!
ReplyDeleteI agree with John - Posterior tibialis. I also love his RICE treatment (seriously that's a better strategy than the standard RICE treatment). If it is posterior tibial tendonopathy, resting it a few days or a few weeks or even a couple of months won't do jack. Keep running easy and try eccentric exercises with a theraband.
ReplyDeleteJamie, thankfully it's not PF. I'm thinking John and Jeff have it figured out...right down to the treatment ;^) That said, I did take 2 days off, Danielle. Going for the 18 at Bradbury tomorrow, though!
