Yesterday's Opposite

I guess that's wrong; it wasn't really the opposite of yesterday's run cause I had a blast. I strapped on the snowshoes with the intent of packing down the start of our Fat Ass. I knew it was deep, but didn't expect to sink past my knees almost everywhere. I ran for short stretches, but then walked to recover. I figured that I'd do 3/4 to a mile and then retrace my steps so that I could actually run. I was surprised to find that the going wasn't all that much easier heading back.

So, unlike yesterday, I was not fast. I was extremely slow. I kicked my ankles with the metal snowshoes. My heart rate soared. But! I was 10 again, playing "Lost in the Blizzard" with my brother. I loved being nearly knocked down by the wind.

Back at the house, I turned around to do it all over again. I finished with 3.2 miles. I hope a snowmobile notices my tracks and follows them. As much fun as today was, I'd take a packed trail tomorrow.

UPDATE: just put in the garmin data. guess I could go faster on the 2nd time out. 8 min/mile faster.
