Taper Testiness? Taper Tenderness? Taper Tantrum? Taper...

Tuesday I met up with the Squirrel for TNR.  We just did the four on our schedule.  Time was a factor.  Then I didn't run again till the weekend.  Runs were on the plan, but life interfered.  Normally, I make sure that I get the runs in anyway, but I kept saying, "Well, it is the taper."

You'd think I would have been well rested and rarin' to go Saturday.  Well, I was happy to be back at the Brad and especially to have gIANt company in the Squirrel's absence, but I wasn't all peppy or anything.  Ian and I got in 10.25 miles with lots of good conversation.  Basically, we ran the BBU course minus the east side.  I planned on 14 miles to make up for not running since Tuesday, so headed back out on the east side to get the extra miles.  After I went to E&Ls.  Without any company, I just did take out.  After lunch and a shower, I found myself as tired as if I'd done big miles.  I napped pretty good.

Today, Rick and I headed to Bradbury for 8 miles.  As we were getting our gear together, another runner came across the parking lot.  He looked familiar.  He asked how far we were going and if he could run with us.  OK, I was sure I knew him.  It was Michael!  We'd run together back in February at the Brad and then he came to our fatass.  So since then, he'd finished his first 50K and qualified for the Boston.  Now he's prepping for his first 100!  I said of course he was welcomed, but our pace was going to be leisurely.  Since he was fine with that, we enjoyed his company for all of Mindy's Loop.  The Brad seemed almost back to its normal springtime muddiness.

Back in the parking lot, Rick and I were getting ready to head to E&Ls.  Michael was getting ready to head back out to finish the 26 miles he had planned.

So, my title?  I can't believe how lousy all my part have felt this past week.  When I woke up this morning, my back was really grumpy, as was my stomach and mood.  The run cured my back, stomach, and mood.  And I was looking forward to the taper?!

  3. Sounds like taper madness to me, too. Worse taper feeling = better race? Scout and Squirrel will be putting footprints all over the Green Mts of VT. LOOK OUT!

  5. Yeah I'm feeling the same thing. 7 miles or less feels like a long-weekender...

You're going to do great Val, and have fun, and a smile the whole way!

    2. At least one of you totally needs to run in a bear costume. I am sure all the other runners would appreciate the chuckle... especially around mile 40-45 or so. :D
