Last night I chose to run instead of writing about running. Unstrung showed up at Scoutland right at 9pm. I was a little late getting ready. I was trying to find a cheap flight for Sam to Portland, OR; he's got a summer job with Intel!!! Any how, Xar visited with Spotless puppy while I finished getting in gear. I actually chose light tights for fear of ticks.
In the field across the street, I said who's eyes are those? Turns out there were lightning bugs!!! I don't believe I've ever seen them this early. How can you be unhappy running with a friend AND having fireflies?!
We also came across our 3 guardian deer. This night they watched us for a while before moving off. We didn't head back that way to see if they came back like last time. Then in the tiny brook crossing we saw the biggest leaches either of us had ever seen. We didn't look on the way out. It was after we'd crossed coming back that we looked into the water. I was hoping for some crawfish or bullheads. I'm trying to think of how to make the disgusted noise that you make when you shiver with disgust. Oh well...
Xar had to call it a night around six miles in. I would have kept running, but this was better. I haven't gotten very much sleep in a while. As it was, sleep would have to wait as I searched for flights again. How could they have gone up that much while I was out running? OK, I promise to finish up the race report this weekned.
Running among fireflies makes everything better. And among guardian deer, and maybe, possibly even among supersized leaches. :) I was sorry to have to call it early - it was such a lovely night for runnage and I was enjoying the hell out of it. This was my third double in the past week though and there is this thing in a couple days, etc etc etc, holy moly, etc. o:
ReplyDeleteAnd another yay on the Intel job for the kiddo, and it's in a cool area to boot - very awesome!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh! Ok, I can wait for the weekend. Posting about fireflies definitely will hold me until the race report. How is this for the disgusted noise "blughghg!"
