Saturday morning, Rick and I met up with a
large TM crew to work clearing a section of the Bradbury/Pineland Connector. It was lousy weather, but in true TM fashion that didn't put a damper on things. The work was done with lots of fun and laughter, followed by yummy food and warmth at Edna and Lucy's. It did, however, leave me with a chill. So I put off my run till later in the afternoon and only did 6.5 instead of the 10 on "the plan". That meant I'd run longer today (officially yesterday now).
I was tempted to run the road to get it over with. Then I read a FB post by
James:
"May you all find a special and personal way to enjoy today. I just went for a beautiful 3 hour trail run and it feels like Spring. That was church for me." I decided I needed to go to church, too. I was quickly and richly rewarded. Shame on me for taking a run for granted with the "get it over with" attitude when I had no time constraints.
The best part of the service was the rest of the congregation. I saw two osprey, was led across the snowmobile bridge by a gray squirrel (thought about Mindy : ), a mink (he froze when he saw me. I was still on the bridge and did the same thing. After a while he went on with his business and disappeared under some brush along the river), a kingfisher, a muskrat, tens of turtles (all plopping into the river at once! Some were on what, last year, I had dubbed turtle log), and a red tailed hawk that screeched at me several times. Joy! I even found more little trails to investigate.
OK, some silly stuff, too....On our Pineland run, Mindy, Jeremy, and I were talking about running long. Sorry Jeremy, but I'm telling...He confessed to wanting to be able to run an ultra and still be able to be fine after. I think he called it "doing a Demer". After lots of giggling from the girls, he decided to call it "pulling a Demer". So on my run today, what starts running through my head? "Do a Demer, run like a Demer..." (sung to the Dr. Pepper tune) "wouldn't you like to do a Demer, too?" I think I'll try to substitute "pull" in, but the "song" was pretty well stuck for the last 1.5 miles. So the service had a hymn, of sorts, too.
And I was just going to "get it over with"!
No way I'm doing a Demer. But some of my best friends do.
ReplyDeleteThose are some happy sights on an Easter day :-) Sounds like a good "service" to me!
ReplyDeleteSomeone will need to ask James if he'd rather be pulled or done...
ReplyDelete: D I wish there was a like buttons on the comments!
ReplyDeleteI need to read this blog more often! Thanks for the kind words.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how the creatures whose home we run through are showing themselves these days. I've been seeing lots as well, but no mink!
Mindy- yes.
