Friday I headed to Portland for a twice-canceled run with Dora. To make it an even better outing, we planned to have lunch at the Green Elephant after. We started out a little before 11:30 on the Fore River Sanctuary trails. Even though the maps say there are 2 miles of trails, my Garmin tells me otherwise. I think the mountain bikers have added a lot more out there. We had no worries just heading out on any of them...doesn't seem like an easy place to get lost.
We ended back at the cars with the Garmin reading 3.44 miles. After some water, we headed out for the Stroudwater Trail. We had lots of catching up to do and easily filled our run with interesting chatter. By the time we got back to the cars, both of us were super hungry. I was surprised to see our distance was almost the same as the first leg, 3.41 miles. This time we had cut the trail short because of time and hunger constraints!
Dora had never been to the Green Elephant before; I knew she was in for a treat, not even worried there was a chance she wouldn't like it. Even though we had big portions, neither of us needed doggy bags! I'm sure we'll repeat this more than once this summer.
Today, Ryan, Rick and I headed to Bradbury to run the Scuffle course. It was hotter than I expected, but we were compensated by having no bugs! While there was some mud on the trail, there really were not puddles. I didn't even have to scrape my shoes at the end. I think we jumped one deer and lots of squirrels and chipmunks. It was the first time the three of us had run in a very long time. Nice.
I think if I had to deal with bugs on most of my runs I would just jump ahead to the beer.
