Weekend Update

I thought I'd make it to Bradbury this weekend, but ended up having two wonderful runs from home. Winter really opens up the possibilities. Saturday I ran 58:26 on the now frozen snowmobile paths, making a mental note not to go another day without screws.

Today, Rick joined me. It's always great to run with him, but I appreciated having him even more to be a witness to my coyote. On one of the long, flat stretches of snowmobile trail, I saw some animal and called to Rick to notice. As we closed some distance, I could tell it was a coyote rolling in the snow. Reminded me of how Spot Dog loves to roll in snow. We weren't exactly approaching quietly since the snow was so crunchy and I'm rarely not talking. It jumped to its feet and looked at us a few moments before trotting off. If I'd been by myself, I'm not sure I'd have kept running in its direction. Maybe. We didn't see anything it was rolling in so I do think it was just enjoying the snow. Us, too!

Rick headed back a bit before I did. Since I won't get in a run tomorrow (heading to RI to pick up Ryan!!!), I wanted to go at least an hour. My newly screwed shoes let me enjoy the surroundings more instead of having to concentrate so hard on the footing.

  1. So which of you was considered the weak one of the herd?

Here in Colorado our coyotes don't like to expend much energy so a runner is generally safe. They like to lay down in the middle of a prairie dog colony and wait until the little rodents forget it's out there.
