Went to Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary today. The foliage isn't quite at peak, but it's working on it. If I remember right, Thorncrag turns the most wonderful gold. It's almost brighter in the woods with the sun reflecting off all the leaves on the trees and lining the trail than in the clearings. There's no hunting there so I have lots of time to enjoy it!
I ran about six miles today at near 11 minute mile pace. For there, that's pretty good. The steepest trail (coming back from Whale Rock)seemed like Pathfinder's gravel pit today. It's always very steep, of course, but the added loose leaves in combo with the acorns acting like ballbearings made going harder than usual. I think I did all the big hills in the upward-direction at least once. A very good workout.
Val,
ReplyDeleteI still plan on getting over to the Sanctuary soon. I would like to run it as it is not far from my work(I think?)
Sure sounds like a pretty fun run and since it is closed to hunters, I would feel safer. I actually heard guns last night at Pineland....someone must have been target shooting.
I tend to wear a lot of orange this time of year even on land that's closed - I figure the neighboring property might not be.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a chance to head to Thorncrag, let me know - even on short notice - I'd love to give you the tour!
