I hadn't gone very far along the Back Cove when I came across a rough-legged hawk sitting on a post not more than 10 feet from the path. I was just going to keep running, figuring it would fly off; It didn't. I pulled out my cell to take a picture. I could tell it didn't fly because it was taking refuge from the crows. It still didn't fly when I crept closer. I loved the way (s)he tilted her/his head at me. Maybe I could have gotten even closer. There were no signs of flight, but I didn't want to press the issue. Maybe it would be easier to go at me than to be pestered by the crows. So I took my picture and one more for good measure. Given that there isn't a photo to go with this post, it might be safe to assume they didn't turn out. Well, they weren't even saved. Without my glasses, I couldn't tell which button to press for that. I thought I knew. Oh well. It was cool.
I continued out the Eastern Prom trail, down Commercial, up High, across the bridge and turned around at 5 miles. I was just under 9 minute miles. It wasn't till the eight mile mark that I realized I hadn't coughed or felt a hint of my cold. In fact, when I was a mile out I decided to push it a little. I ran the last mile in 7:53! Not a bad way to end my first 10 miler since before Christmas. I did have a mini-coughing fit at the end, but, it was worth it! Great run.
Seems like you are getting in some very effective runs this winter....I think you will be more than ready for spring....
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great run! Nice hawk sighting too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys! The hawk in the first mile and the "speed" in the last made it one of my best solo runs in a long time
