White Rabbit Running

Xar and I have similar running patterns; we're always running late.  We fashion that we are in the White Rabbit Running Society.  Last night, I thought 10am might be a good time for today's run.  Xar thought maybe 9:30 for her, factoring WRRS.  Well, as I was rushing to dress, worrying that I might be late for 10, I noticed a text asking if 10:30 was good.  Yes, gooder.  I actually left enough time so that, with stopping for coffee, I still could be at Riverlands by 10:25.  Midway through my drive, having the shit bounced out of me by frost heaves, I texted Xar I might be 5 minutes late.

Well, as I turned to pull into the parking lot, I noticed it hadn't been plowed.  Good test for my balding tires.  I hoped that all-wheel drive would make up for lack of tread.  I made it up, but nearly was stranded trying to park.  That other white rabbit was not in the lot.  I called to tell her not to attempt it.  I was heading down to the nearby boat launch; it is always plowed.  She was just a few minutes out, grateful for the intel.

Interesting enough, white rabbits also have a tendency for bad backs.  Unfortunately, both backs were not at their best, but the younger hare's was more jacked.  It made for a slow start, made even more slow by soft snow.  Still, it was hard not to marvel at the day.  Riverlands is always beautiful, but in fresh snow with a brilliant blue sky, well...💓

I thought the running would be better since the Turner snowmobilers seem to be ultra riders.  There had not been that much traffic.  I am just starting my Never Summer training plan, so only had 4 miles for the day.  Now, I was prepared to go longer, since I don't expect people to travel just for four.  Before we'd really warmed up and were still stiff, I suggested turning around at the 2 mile mark.  Xar asked how much further to Sensitive Habitat.  Just another mile.  Well, we ended up running past.  We had switched our mission to scouting possible Middle Earth locations.  With all the snow, it was very hard to tell what would work.

By the time we'd turned around, either the snow had firmed up a bit or we had.  The going was much easier, but no more enjoyable cause we were already pretty well enjoying ourselves.  We finished up with just under 8 miles, but more than 8 miles worth of discussions (which may have included Dr. Seuss, plastic poop-scooper pistols, steps, relationships, TMR group runs, and puppies).

Piper still needed her run when I came home
